Dr. Hughan is a practicing pediatric endocrinologist at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Since 2013, she has led a dedicated pediatric and young adult CF Endocrine clinic based within the University of Pittsburgh CF Center. She also cares for patients with CF-related diabetes on the inpatient consult service several weeks each year. In 2016, Dr. Hughan was awarded the CFF EnVision award. Through this junior faculty mentoring program, she authored a scientific review on the major reproductive health issues for women with CF. She now serves as a faculty mentor to the second EnVision award cohort. Dr. Hughan also recently completed a pilot project with another EnVision mentee, which investigates prandial glucose metabolism and islet cell function in youth with advanced CF liver disease. This pilot data serves as the basis for a 2-center project that was recently funded by a CFF Clinical Research Award.
