Art is a 58-year-old with cystic fibrosis who is originally from northeast Ohio and currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a degree in biology and then received a PhD in genetics from Stanford University. He has spent more than 20 years as a research scientist in several biotech companies. His scientific career has focused on identifying genes involved in disease, drug discovery, and early drug development. He has been active with the CF Foundation as a member of Community Voice and as a scientific advisor on several biotech collaborations. He is currently a patient representative on the Data Safety Monitoring Board, several research and clinical protocol review committees, and was recently appointed to the Adult Advisory Council. He is particularly interested in the science behind gene therapy and the potential it holds for CF treatments. In addition to his desire to help advance CF research and support the CF community, he enjoys cooking, gardening, and traveling.
