Carol Chace has been working at Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., for 34 years, first as a child life specialist followed by a career in social work. She has worked with children, young adults, and families in multiple clinical settings, acute care and trauma, and in chronic illness. She has a special interest in mental health and the effects on chronic illness and advocacy for individuals in the healthcare setting. Carol facilitates parent groups with the CF Foundation’s Metro DC Chapter in English and Spanish, educates local university graduate social work interns in chronic illness, and collaborates with the CF Foundation on many projects, including the Partnership Enhancement Program, the Social Work Mentoring Program, and the Partnership for Sustaining Daily Care Initiative. She was nominated by the CF social work community to receive the CF Social Work Achievement Award for her advocacy and mentoring in the CF community. Her best work is completed at bedside and in the clinic, helping patients and families express themselves to the care team in efforts to help make sustainable treatment plans that allow individuals with CF to live their best lives.
Carol is happily married, lives with two rescue pooches, and loves to garden.
