Dr. Daniel Leung is an associate professor of pediatrics within the division of gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at Baylor College of Medicine and director of hepatology and liver transplant medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. He has devoted his career to the study and care of children with chronic fibro-inflammatory liver diseases, with an emphasis on cystic fibrosis related liver disease (CFLD), growth and nutrition. He is a member of the inaugural class of Developing Innovative Gastroenterology Specialty Training (DIGEST) grant recipients and has served on the CF Foundation Clinical Research Grant Review Committee for several years. Dr. Leung has made important research contributions to the field of CF, including novel work reporting alternative etiopathogenesis of CFLD, validating serum and imaging biomarkers of CFLD, and describing the unique dysbiotic signature in infants with low linear growth. Alongside Dr. Drucy Borowitz, Dr. Leung had the opportunity to co-lead the CFF/NIH-supported multicenter, longitudinal Baby Observational and Nutrition Study (BONUS). He is active on the steering committee for the CFLD research network and serves as a liver consultant for the BEGIN study, which is evaluating growth, nutrition, and liver measures both pre and post TCT treatment in young children.
