Bio

Dr. Dhiren Patel MD, MBBS is an associate professor of pediatrics at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He also serves as the medical director of GI motility, in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital at Saint Louis University. He has expertise in taking care of patients with dysmotility of the GI tract from various reasons. Dr. Patel started the gastrointestinal motility program at SLU from inception and is now serving pediatric and adolescent patients with the need for GI motility interventions. He joined the SLU faculty in 2016, when he took charge of CF-related nutritional studies as principal investigator. Dr. Patel was awarded the DIGEST award from CF foundation in 2019. He is also a member of the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society and serves on GI motility committee of North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Dr. Patel incorporates many of the latest technologies in his practice, including wireless motility capsule, impedance techniques, high-resolution manometry, and scintigraphy tests. He plans to continue his research exploring dysmotility of the gastrointestinal tract in patients with cystic fibrosis in the hope to invent newer therapies that could improve the quality of life for patients with cystic fibrosis.
