Name
Real Talk: My Transplant Experience
Description
Audience: All Connections
Stage: Learning/Pre-Transplant

In this storytelling panel, we’ll discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly – things most people don’t want to talk about. Hear from people who have had a transplant as they discuss what they wish they knew or considered before getting the transplant, and as they provide some tips and tricks to get through the process. We’ll bring to light the struggles that come along with this major surgery, including complications, infection, rejection, second transplants, physical and mental changes, and the fact that transplant is not a cure. There will be time for questions and an open discussion.
Session Objectives
  1. Gain insight into the overall transplant experience and find out if there is anything they would change about their transplant process.
  2. Understand potential issues to help set realistic expectations.
  3. Highlight the most common post-transplant issues.
  4. Discuss the importance of being mentally prepared and how to prepare your post-transplant coping tools.
