PLEASE NOTE - This session will contain sensitive subject matter and is intended for those who are ineligible for transplant, experiencing rejection, or have chosen not to pursue transplant.
There are many reasons why somebody may not be eligible for or choose not to pursue a transplant. This discussion will address the challenges and realities of these decisions. We will discuss palliative care, advanced care plans, and advanced directives to better prepare for the progression of advanced lung disease and offer resources for planning. We will also address the fears and judgement involved in choosing not to pursue transplant, including the physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental challenges.
Session Objectives
- Define physical and mental challenges of living as an adult with advanced lung disease.
- Offer resources on advanced care planning and how to make an advanced care directive.
- Explore options available to somebody who chooses not to pursue transplant (or second transplant, etc.).
- Address the stigmas around not receiving or choosing not to receive a transplant and how to cope with or find support for your decisions.
