Stage: Considering and Pre-transplant - People interested in learning about advanced lung disease and the lung transplant process
Do you feel like you need to have the knowledge of a doctor, social worker, dietitian, financial expert, and more when going through transplant? Attend a presentation with Dr. Joseph Pilewski, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh, to get a better grasp on the pre- and post-transplant process. We know how overwhelming transplant can be with new doctors, medical jargon, medicines, and tests – this session will help you learn the basics. Dr. Pilewski and a post-transplant patient will explain all aspects of transplant and answer your questions. This session will be recorded and available to registrants upon request after the event.
Session Objectives
- Understand the progression of CF lung disease and treatment options.
- Learn factors that may lead to a transplant recommendation or referral.
- Highlight the characteristics that make someone an ideal candidate for transplant and factors that may lead to being “turned down” by a transplant center.
